Just bought it. Turning it into a project show car. Love this car.
The fifth generation Chevrolet Camaro is being produced at the General Motors Oshawa Car Assembly plant in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. General Motors decision to invest US$740,000,000 in converting the Oshawa Car Manufacturing plant into a flexible state of the art manufacturing facility could not have come at a better time.
The plant had previously been scheduled for closing in 2008. Had not been for the decision to convert the plant to produce the Camaro in Oshawa, more than 2,700 jobs would have been lost. Production of the fifth generation Camaro had been scheduled to start end of 2008 and the first model year was supposed to be a 2009 Camaro.
However, in March of 2008, General Motors announced that production would be delayed until the following year. The new start scheduled date was February 2009 for the 2010 model year going on sale Spring of the same year. The previous generation had ended with the 2002 model year.
Coincidentally, production of another well known American Muscle car, the Pontiac Firebird also ended production with the 2002 model year. As of the writing of this article, end of Summer of 2011, the Pontiac Firebird has not resumed production and as far as I know there are no plans to bring it back to life.
The 2010 model was only available as a coupe even though the Convertible Concept had been introduced back in January of 2007 at the 2007 North American International Auto Show. Production of the Convertible began in January of 2011 and started arriving at the dealerships in February of the same year as 2011 Convertible models.
Planning to add some engine accessories and an aftermarket exhaust.
