Production of the Third-Generation Camaros ran between 1982 and 1992. These were the first Camaros equipped with factory fuel injection and due to the fuel crisis of 1979, were also the first Camaros to be available with four-cylinder engines.
The 1982 Camaro Z28 was named “Car of the Year” by “Motor Trend”. Three models were available for 1982, Sport Coupe, Berlinetta, and the Z28. The suspension system was upgraded for the Third-Generation which made them much more stable going around corners than the previous generation.
Five engines in total were available during the Third-Generation:
2.5L (151 cid) 4 Cylinder.
2.8L (173 cid) V6.
3.1L (191 cid) V6.
5.0L (305 cid) V8.
5.7L (350 cid) V8.
The 1992 Camaro was the last of the Third-Generation. To celebrate the 25th Anniversary, all 1992 Camaros had a 25th Anniversary badge inserted on the dashboard and some also had rally stripes applied.
Worth noting was that some of the cars built between 1989 and 1992 were meant to be raced, so they were not equipped with A/C, cruise control and some cars didn’t even have radios to keep them as light as possible. Also, the interior was of very poor quality because it was expected that the owner would remove it to make the car even lighter.
