Additional Facts:

Datsun 280Z was one of several names the Nissan S30 was sold under. Produced by Nissan Motors Ltd. of Japan between 1969 and 1978, it was sold in Japan as the Nissan Fairlady Z and outside of Japan as the Datsun 240, 260 and 280Z. The Nissan S30 was the first generation of the Z GT two-seater coupe.

Regardless of which name it was sold under, all of them had a 4-wheel independent suspension with MacPherson struts at the front wheels (originally used on the Nissan Laurel C30) and Chapman struts at the rear wheels. They all also had front disc brakes and rear drums.

In 1975 fuel injection was added to the 280Z sold in the U.S. (L-Jetronic electronic fuel injection, designed by Bosch). This provided adequate power which could not be accomplished with carburetors due to US emissions regulations. This was because in 1973 the carburetors were changed to comply with emissions regulations, but this was done at the expense of performance since the new carburetors were inferior in performance as compared to earlier carburetors.

Also due to ever increasing U.S. safety requirements, both the 2+2 Hatchback and the 2-seater coupe were fitted with 8 Km/h (5 mph) bumpers. These bumpers were designed to look as if they were part of the body. This was achieved using black rubber extensions that met the car’s body.

The Datsun was a success for Nissan Motor Corporation in the United States mainly due to their low cost in comparison to several other imported sports cars like Porsche, Jaguar, BMW, etc.

Present Or Future Plans:

I am planning to restore an old Volvo 544.

My Ride’s Pictures:
76 Datsun 280Z Description of Picture on the Left:
Very nice picture of the 1976 Datsun 280Z. This sports car is not only rare, but it is also a great looking ride. The owner has been driving this car for three years now and loves the attention it gets from almost everybody. The truth is that this sports car turns heads anywhere it goes. As it is obvious from looking at the picture, the owner takes the car to car shows, so it must be in excellent shape which is also obvious on the picture. Click on the Picture to enlarge.
